Herewith the draft of a telegram which has been prepared for you to send on the hundredth anniversary of the foundation of Hong Kong. The actual date of the anniversary is the 26th January and we had always intended to suggest a message from yourself. But Hong Kong has begun sooner than we expected and there has already been a loyal message from the Colony to the King in connection with this anniversary. The original idea was to have a big show and the main feature would have been the unveiling of a statue of King George VI which has been made by Sir Gilbert Ledward, but it was decided that un war conditions all that must be in abeyance. We telegraphed to the Acting Governor yesterday in connection with the message of loyalty saying that you had intended to send a message from yourself and that you would do so for the 26th January provided he thought that date was suitable. We have asked for an immediate reply.
